In order to build a financial portfolio for a pleasant retirement, you must do your due diligence in picking stocks. It is far to easy to delegate this responsibility to someone else – like a financial advisor. However, how many times have we read in the newspaper that someone has been fleeced of his/her life savings by an unscrupulous charletan investor? The answer is way too many times.

The fact is, you must be aware of your financial assets and understand where the money is coming and going. The greatest lesson to be learned is that no one will care about your money more than you so you might as well keep a good eye on it.

What it really boils down to is good old fashion common sense. If you don’t understand it, don’t invest in it.

It’s not sexy to hold stocks forever but if you do your due diligence, then you are just as capable as anyone on Wall Street.
